Re: New Perth Mint Issue - Great Warrior Series - Roman Legionary

Not really that impressed, but wonder if we will see the recent trend where the first coin in a popular series rises in price...

Do you know what other "Great Warriors" are coming in the collection GP?

Re: New Perth Mint Issue - Great Warrior Series - Roman Legionary

The page said Viking, Knight and Samurai.

I agree... the artwork is a bit two dimensional. I was hoping for something like the Pheidippidis' Marathon Run design - that's an impressive coin, but a bit ignored being a one-off commemerative.

Re: New Perth Mint Issue - Great Warrior Series - Roman Legionary

I agree, the coin would look more impressive in the Pheidippidis
design.  It would look great without any color.

I would think it costs a lot more to make a coin design out of silver only,
than to use a basically blank side and put a colored design on it.  Not
sure of course, but maybe someone can confirm this.

Re: New Perth Mint Issue - Great Warrior Series - Roman Legionary

Looks pretty uninspiring. You could rig up a home inkjet printer today that could do this.
I thought this was a Perth Mint coin, not a Franklin Mint coin.
Wtf do Roman Soldiers have to do with Australia anyway?
If the Perth Mint doesn't want to put any effort into these coins that's fine, just stop charging high end prices, for low end products.
Sorry for the rant.

Re: New Perth Mint Issue - Great Warrior Series - Roman Legionary

IF I wasn't playing around with the sea life series and the Lunar series I'd go for this one in a flash. Only 4 coins in the set, I love Roman Hx, Vikings, Japanese Hx and Medieval history.

But I AM in it for the ounces. So sadly I have to pass on this one

+1 to everything Perthstack said as well

Re: New Perth Mint Issue - Great Warrior Series - Roman Legionary

i have been looking forward for this release but am a bit disappointed with it. i was hoping they would have put more effort in to making the dies like in the battle series. i will still buy one as I'm an addict when it comes to Perth mint commemoratives. cant wait for the samurai as i think it will be the most popular.

Looks kinda plain isn't it? Looks like 9 yo's cartoon drawing, very 2D.

The prices have gotten ridiculous.  It's still ONE OUNCE of Silver after all!

Re: New Perth Mint Issue - Great Warrior Series - Roman Legionary

I was actually looking forward to this series. Unfortunately a bit of a disappointment - looks like he's just been told about his colonoscopy!

A missed opportunity I think. My suggestion to the Perth Mint is lose the emphasis on colour and commercialism, and focus on what you’re actually trying to portray. There is an absolute dearth of sculptures and paintings from the Romanic period that would capture the image, hope and gravitas of a Legionary.

I hate to think who their going to pull out for the Viking - Hagar?
