My coin arrived a few minutes ago and as usual the Perth Mint has under-delivered on this coin.
Trick photography can manipulate a sow's ear to look like a silk purse and that's what has happen here.
Every coloured or collectable coin they shove out of the mint these days sells on hype; not substance. This is overpriced junk but the punters won't see it that way. For them it's better than placing a bet at the races. An easy way to double or triple their money if it's a winner or at least a return of their stake if this mania peters out.
The Perth Mint should stick to what they do best, minting quality bullion coins and not flood the world with this overpriced crap.
Will $300 eventually be the average price for this coin? Probably and maybe even more
I think it has a very good chance of being a double bagger maybe even a triple bagger if enough flippers hold their nerve.
I honestly believe this coin deserves to fail; unfortunately it won't happen.

lol Aurora, appreciate your time in posting - but perhaps tell us what you don't like about the coin?
Not much gold, looks flimsy, poor casing - what don't you like???

Just received my Treasures of Oz (gold nuggets) coin as well. I'm happy enough with it.
Sure, you pay a lot for a 1oz piece of silver with a dab of gold inside - but what were people expecting?
I reckon it looks just like the display photo on the Perth Mint website.
Would post pics if I had a cam handy - COA 3481

Mine is still at the "ReadyToPick" stage, even though I ordered when there were over 290 left at the mint.

Look, no one flipping these coins here will be affected by my comments.
This is a great site but I think people here have better taste than collecting this sort of crap.
But just in case there's one or two members here who are serious about collecting, don't.
This is the latest overpriced gimmick the Perth Mint has foisted on coin collectors.
I think most people will get their coins delivered by post today so everybody will know what I raving on about.
The coin looks nothing like the pics the Perth Mint used. Judge for yourself when it arrives.
Supposed to be a proof but minting standards certainly not up to proof standard.
I would rate the Diamond as their ugliest coin but this one is nearly as ugly. It's mutton dressed as lamb using a couple of gold granules to glamorize what is a very plain design on an pretty ordinary coin.
I don't follow the herd, so I expect few people to agree with me. Some will be blinded by the $ signs they expect from flipping this coin but the bottom line is, if there was no mania would you plonk down $155 for this coin.
I doubt many would!

Aurora et luna I know what you are saying.
Silver is cheap now.
What people are asking for this coin on ebay is close to a 10oz of silver bullion coin.
So nearly 10 times the price of the coins value.
So it is crazy in one aspect.
However having alot of bullion gets a bit boring sometimes.
So having something different like a TOA coin breaks up the monotony.
P.S. I havent got my TOA nuggets yet... so Ill have a look when they arrive.

When you put it like that, the TOA sucks even more.
Stacking a variety of 10oz Kooks or Lunar coins will give me a lot more pleasure and the security of mind that the coin is backed by real intrinsic worth.
The TOA is secured by a value that is intangible and subject to whims of collectors.
I will be looking forward to trading mine for Kooks when the time comes.

How is the numismatic potential worth less than the intrinsic potential of the metal? What if the price of silver bullion tanks? Late last week everyone was dumping silver EFTs to go bargain hunting on the stock market but collector interest in the TOA series increased significantly.
I know the value of the metal in the computer I'm typing this from is worth a fraction of what I paid for the computer. I don't feel ripped off at all.
Personally, I like the abstract landscape design on the coin and the locket design is very innovative and appropriate for displaying the output of our mining heritage.

Buy a silver Kook and it can never devalue below $1 but premiums inflated by mania can.
TOA has less than $40 worth of intrinsic metal value and about $210 worth of hot air supporting it present worth.
I haven't a clue when the bubble (sorry numismatic potential) will burst but hopefully most of us here will make some money out of it before then. ![]()

You're comparing apples with oranges.
Once you take some silver and make something interesting out of it it stops be just silver and, in this case, starts being one of only 7500 of these coins that will ever be made.
What if the "bubble" bursts for silver bullion and it falls back to the $4 range it was in during 2001?

I gave it a shot too - but only 1 - and got an order comfirmation - so not sure if i was successful or not! fingers crossed!
I received my Perth mint ones yesterday and one was marked. So I rang them straight away hoping to get it replaced. They do have one available to replace it SO I sent it back in the hope another one comes back! ITs so frustrating receiving a coin with a mark - I received the 2010 silver roo proof with a mark a few months back as well. I never knew so many mistakes were made - or maybe i am just unlucky?

just recieved my 2 coins from perth mint and am very happy. i bought these to flip but im kinda in between now as the coins are really nice looking ) i hate the premiun i paid over bullion value but really these arent bullion coins.
so as i debate what to do either try to trade one for the sapphire or flip them , if you were to flip them now or wait awhile what do you all think would bring the best price. if i keep them i will probably try to get the full set. thanks jim

Hi Jim, love your username (wish I was there).
I'm getting a couple of these myself, think they look really good.
Keeping one for my personal collection, didn't want to sell the second one so giving it to my father as a birthday present (also a stacker).

I am using the track record of the Diamonds to "try" to flip these Nuggets.
Within two months of their release the Diamonds were reselling on ebay for $190 - 220.
I waited too long; momentum slowed and I sold most of them for between $169 - 179
I think if you waited too long and prices dip then hold onto them until the Pearl is released.
With the release of the nugget there has been a resurgence in the price paid for the Diamonds.
If you are lucky you might be able to flip one of the Nugget for double what you paid and end up with a freebie.
Good luck.

I don’t know other peoples view on this, but when I first heard about the TOA series few years ago, my first thought was the gold version. I only wanted that one. Don’t now how they will go in time, but looking at the first sales on each coin from the series many others must be thinking the same way.

One seller in Germany has 192 available on eBay.
Congratulation Mr Perth Mint !

@dabeach: These coins looks great and will have permanent place in my collection.
Regarding to flip - it is not the best time I think - price is quite high now but having in mind very high issue price then I strongly believe price should get 300AUD.
I made small calculation on another forum where I counted that:
In Poland we need to add about 15AUD for shipping and 22% for VAT ![]()
How much price changed in comparision to issue price:
Opals - 95,5AUD
Diamonds - 109AUD
Nuggets - 145AUD
Max price was:
Opals 237% from issue price ever and 95% from price in Poland ever
Diamonds 143% from issue price ever and i 79% from price in Poland ever
Gold Nuggets 82% from price in Poland max i 26% from price in Poland
Based on these counting I think Gold Nuggets will get almost same price jump as Diamonds - about 110-140% - 304AUD - 348AUD during biggest hype.
I think we are in biggest hype now and it can last for next 2-3 months. Then will be Holiday and prices drop, then rise after Holiday and hype again during last coin with Pearl.
Now is a good time to sell but looking on history I would wait one or two months more BUT only if you check almost day by day prices level to find the end of Hype of Hypes.
@projack: could you write his nick or his auction?

Australia Post Queensland total allocation for this coin was 50, not even enough 1 for every post office in Brisbane let alone the rest of the state. This eBay seller has at least 4 times that many for himself alone.

Is he a genuine seller though?
