2017 Dragon and Phoenix (Perth Mint)

Opinions?

I like the low mintage, but don't like that it's a one off/not part of a series.

Good design, but quite similar to the 2000/2012 dragons. The Koala is priced lower, I reckon a better buy despite the higher mintage.

The Perth Mint is delighted to unveil a new Australian legal tender silver bullion coin featuring a design abounding in Chinese symbolism.

Complementing the annual Australian Bullion Coin Program, the 2017 Dragon and Phoenix is a standalone release meticulously struck from 1oz of 99.99% pure silver. An excellent way for investors to accumulate silver from one of the world's most trusted sources, the coin's maximum mintage of just 50,000 is also expected to inspire considerable interest among collectors.

Re: 2017 Dragon and Phoenix (Perth Mint)

Trash. They seem to release things like this weekly now. They never increase in price and  u will struggle to even get what u paid in a few months. isnt almost all their random stuff under 50k mintage??
Their regular lunar/kook series is the only thing that ever carries/increases its value.

Edit: retracted. Didnt realise its priced as a straight PM bullion coin.

Pretty good. Can't go wrong with that mintage, might have to pick up a few thousand...

Re: 2017 Dragon and Phoenix (Perth Mint)

For the same price as a Rooster, couple bucks more then a kook, with 50,000 mintage, a nice design, appeal to chinese buyers with a reputable brand, I cant see how you can go wrong, I'm going to grab a few.

Re: 2017 Dragon and Phoenix (Perth Mint)

According to Ainslie: "These spectacular limited addition coins will see just 5,000 sold in Australia and are sure to be coveted for years to come."

& seems are only being sold in Australia through Ainslie or Perth Mint.

Reminds me of the 2014 Wedge Tailed Eagle... probably worth a punt smile

Slider- interested in a group buy? They get a lot cheaper if we buy 600. Any other brissy stackets want to get in on a group buy?
I'll go 100.

Re: 2017 Dragon and Phoenix (Perth Mint)

Perth Mint is a fair bit cheaper than Ainslie... but what a hassle to go through the registration process and provide ID, activate account, etc. Does Perth Mint still require a buyer to jump through those hoops for a phone order and when the order is under $5000?

Dang. Not going to bother then.

Best of luck for those looking to buy from Perth Mint, doesn't sound like their 460 will last too long given interest in the thread.

Re: 2017 Dragon and Phoenix (Perth Mint)

I'd be in for 100 if someone can organize a group buy from the Perth Mint. $4.40 thereabouts cheaper than Ainslie.
Anybody from Perth that can and willing to organize this?
Current 600 group buy price is $29.58ea

Didn't realize there are only 460 left - Shame sad

Maybe someone could organize the 300 breakdown price.

Re: 2017 Dragon and Phoenix (Perth Mint)

Perth mint never releases all stock at once , they would be drip feed the stock as per my experience.

It is a standalone release, so does it make sense to buy it?

Re: 2017 Dragon and Phoenix (Perth Mint)

I like the concept of a Phoenix (as in Silver Phoenix rising from the ashes!) on a silver coin but I don't care for that design.

Yeah, but that one is 20x the price. Pretty different markets really... what is the significance of the phoenix and dragon designs? Are they common creatures to be featured together on a coin?

Re: 2017 Dragon and Phoenix (Perth Mint)

In China, dragon and phoenix are also symbols for marriage harmony…
Traditionally, the groom wears a red suit with dragon pattern on it, and the bride wears a red dress with phoenix pattern.
Dragon is also the symbol of the Emperor and phoenix is the symbol of his wife being the Queen

comments from my future wife who is Chinese smile

I walked over to the mint yesterday and picked up a handful, very nice looking coins.
