WTB 4 to 6 grams of pure gold. Don't care if it is coin, bar or granules. Near spot, suits anyone who has been tempted to open a certicard or just have some granules to make a ring

Re: NEW $5 banknote.

They got a lot of grief for the blue stripe down the middle but apparently that is a clear stripe, they just put it on a blue background.

At least it will tone down the contrast between the wattles and that dark blue.

Re: NEW $5 banknote.

i have also heard the new $5 dollar note will/can cause trouble at vending machines/self serve check outs

as the clear strip down the middle of the note make the machine thinks there is two notes going in  for

payment and not one note.

I thought it was to deter hoarders, who wants that sort of thing lying around where they live smile

They are just trying to flush out all the notes under the mattresses of people who cashed in their Super and are now crying poor.

Re: NEW $5 banknote.

$10 for a note in a holder or $5 for one in change, I hope to get some of the new notes without the 100% premium but it is hard to get excited about them.

Unless you can get uncut sheets, I'm not interested.

Re: NEW $5 banknote.

Read somewhere that they printed 17 Million new notes.

So "THEY" just created 85 million $$$

However, taxpayers will pay $37 million for research, development and public awareness of the upgrade of all denominations over the next 12 years.

The current $10 bank note will be upgraded with new security features in about a year.

I assume they are going to take the old notes out of circulation at some stage. Couldn't find any info on that though, didn't look too hard either.

REDEEMING OLD BANKNOTES

USING PREVIOUS ISSUES OF POLYMER BANKNOTES
All Australian banknotes that have previously been issued into circulation by the Reserve Bank remain legal tender and can continue to be used.
The new $5 banknote was issued on 1 September 2016. All existing polymer banknotes can continue to be used as both versions of the $5 banknote will be in circulation for a number of years.

The first one costs millions. Every one after that costs a couple of cents.

I wonder if RBA put it to a vote, keep the old one or the this one going forward what people would have preferred.

Re: NEW $5 banknote.

Just received a (new) $5 note, it's plastic, serial number on one side, two dimples , windows holograms everywhere and loads of security features, it's got a diagram which is doing my head in, anyway brilliantly crafted - Man it's amassing shame it's got nothing backing it.
