Last saw it for sale at APMEX for 4000 USD but it's no longer available there.

Re: The Price Check Thread.

Hello - It's been a while since I've posted here, but could a few of you please give me a price check on;

2011 1oz Koala
2012 1oz Koala

1983 Royal Aust. Mint $200 Coin (22ct)

If cond. is a factor - a range is fine. I dont know what they are in.

I don't follow follow nummistics, or have any in my stack - but would like to delve into them if the price I am looking at is good enough.

Dealers sell the 2011 for around $40-43 and the 2012 for around $32-35

I'm sure you could get them a little cheaper from someone here

Depending on your location, Max Stern in CBD, Shield Stamps
And Coin in Hiedelberg.

Or maybe check out the weekly coin/stamp show that goes around Melbourne.

Re: The Price Check Thread.

I've picked up some very old pre federation stamps that would have once been worth a mint but now the stamp market has just gone to hell and they're worth more to me as curiosities. If a dealer really low balls you and it's interesting stuff post it on here, someone might want it. Even if only to getv the stuff they could never afford as a young philatelist.

If nothing else I have this year's catalogue of Australian stamps if you think you have anything in particular that you want looked at independently before you go into shark infested waters.

PM me if you want a few individuals checked out (would need clear images though ).

You know you can get a couple good penny blacks from a full retail dealer for the price of a bullion sovereign, you'd do better with connections, wholesale or chancing eBay. Factor inflation in and anyone holding onto all but the cream of stamps in an SMSF, give me feed wine any day, it really is in dire trouble. I really feel for the dealers. I went into basically Adelaide's only remaining stamps only shop the other day and he has so much stock I can't imagine how he makes it work in a decent CBD location unless he owns the large open plan floor that could take an office. I almost asked him what he'd take for the business since it must have bottomed by now and you could sit in the back room doing what you wanted and pricing up the the valuable stamps that came in and out the rest in the cheap bin and recycle the sleeves.

Unless he's operating at A loss it could be a low key lifestyle and they could make a comeback, maybe if the rich get back into them as investment vehicles.

As it stands now though, prepare for disappointment.

I really want to get inthat numismatics as a business, but people are still hurt from WA on the high end for dealers, but there's still money and interest there. Money covers a lot more history, rejects and touches on more subjects and you airways have the PM angle.

Anyway, Happy to help if I can. Anyone Uni or federation state stamps drop me a line, you'll get a bargain swapping me for PMs.

Thanks Phrenzy!

If you were in Melbourne we could meet up for you to check them out. I will go to a Stamp collector shop. If they low ball me I'll be contacting you and show you lots of pics and maybe we can do a deal for some PMs or money.

Re: The Price Check Thread.

No worries.
I think it's a good buy given the the prices the 1oz are sold at and also the low mintage of the 1/2 oz you stated.

Cheers.

Thanks for the info. Looked in eBay and 2 of them (2009 2 oz gold Ox) sold for $5,000 and $5,100 last December. Looks like they are coming back up in price.

That's great. Saw that the coin was part of a live auction. I wonder if there's any additional fees for selling/buying through auction houses.

Good point. I would not be surprised if an additional 15% or so juice was added to the auction hammer price.

Re: The Price Check Thread.

Mint packaging does not mean mint, but as you say it is in good condition you might want to start at $1400 and work down from there.
A grand would be the lowest id take and if you listed it somewhere for 1k it would be a very quick sale.
