1oz PM Silver Monkey - Preorders / Best prices

Thought it might be worth having a thread for preorder information / pricing of the 1oz Silver coin given that it's a limited mintage. I think it will be a strong seller, but I won't be paying any more than the usual $7-10 premium.

ninteno already spotted one in Europe:

in germany the first dealers offer 1oz coins ( presale )
20€/each which is @ exchange rate 1.61 = 32.20AU$
(tax of 7% is included in this price)
i dont expect to see a higher price than 26Au$ @pos a bit more
of 20Au$
could be worth to buy directly in AU this year
be prepaired to see a quick sell out at low silver prices this year

Too much to pay in my opinion, wait for better prices. Please post in this thread if you spot any other deals.

A$33.61 https://bulliondeposit.com.au/product/2 … pre-order/

(but 'marked out of stock' and price seems to change by a few cents frequently even with the spot market closed?)

On a completely related note, I don't think I'll be a buyer, even at those prices!

Based on prices around Australian Dealer websites this morning, a $13-14 premium will be the norm.

Big pass on paying that.

Re: 1oz PM Silver Monkey - Preorders / Best prices

Not sure about limits, but Perth Mint pricing explains the dealer prices... looks like they are charging a higher premium than in the past?

http://www.perthmintbullion.com/au/Buy- … px?size=18

1 or more     AUD 34.91 each
20 or more     AUD 34.66 each
60 or more     AUD 34.26 each
100 or more     AUD 33.61 each
300 or more     AUD 32.81 each
600 or more     AUD 31.61 each

Spot is A$21.50

In comparison they have the Koala starting at:

1 or more     AUD 29.91 each

Re: 1oz PM Silver Monkey - Preorders / Best prices

In germany cheapest price you can get is 19.90€ each.
In this price a 7% tax is included.
It doesn't matter if you buy 1 or 100, its the same price.
You can try to ask for a better price if you buy 500+ but do not expect 1€ less or so. Maybe 25 cent.

In conclusion, this year the first time i notice a higher premium in Oz compared to germany.
never seen this before. For all people here saying i do not pay this premium and think they wont sell them quick and prices will come down, forget this thinking.

Additionally to the momantary coin shortage i expect a sold out from PM within next 4-6 weeks.

For the guys that are not that common with lunar market and think who cares german market.
German market was one of the biggest markets for lunars worldwide in the past.
It was slowing down after 2012 but still very strong.

Re: 1oz PM Silver Monkey - Preorders / Best prices

Seems like not enough competition.

My understanding though I could be wrong, is that lunar coins and koala and kookaburra are bought for the same cost by dealers. I remember buying 100 pieces that the premium was $5.50AUD over spot per coin.

I think that because they're (lunar 1oz) are in such demand and the allocation is small, dealers charge higher prices. They all match each other closely. It is business afterall.

Re: 1oz PM Silver Monkey - Preorders / Best prices

Miloman, normally I would agree with you, the dealers have just decided to up the price, but even the Perth Mint is charging a higher premium for the 1oz lunar monkeys ($5 more per coin than the Koala based on the single coin price)... maybe they are also wholesaling the coins to dealers at a higher price.

Like I said I couldn't be sure. Definitely profiteering going on either by Perth Mint or Re-sellers or both.

In the past I know for sure the premiums on the coins were the same, it might have changed. It would strike me as unlikely. Everyone has privacy agreements, so very doubtful I could find out.

What does strike me consistently is the difference between the price we pay here vs. overseas in the past. That much is evident e.g. Crocodile coins. Which is why I suspect dealers over Perth Mint and the historical case. Perth Mint would likely be supporting the dealers if that's the case.

Re: 1oz PM Silver Monkey - Preorders / Best prices

I see that the Perth is charging 123.00 (1 piece) for the 5 oz monkey.  wowza.  I can find 5 oz goats for 108.00, which seem to be more popular, based on a small sampling on this site.  Interesting.  I'm def not buying 1 oz.  And now, maybe I won't be buying any size monkey coin.  Thanks for making my decision easier Perth Mint. Whew. lol.

Re: 1oz PM Silver Monkey - Preorders / Best prices

I believe Perth Mint has altered their pricing structure to Dealers several times over the last few years on kooks, koalas and lunars. A lot due to kook mintage change to 1 mill. in 2013 which was changed back to 500 000 and has stayed there. Also the introduction of the tubed jobs has changed the pricing structure. Maybe better discussed in length in another thread.

Premiums on lunars are highest due to the lowest mintage, next kooks a couple of $ cheaper, koalas cheaper again and the tubed coins lowest.

2013 only had an original mintage of 1million. Changed to 500 000 due to low/slow sales which matches mintages of 2010-2012. Mintage prior to 2010 was 300 000 the same as lunars.
