It's really cheap when compare with other legal tender silver coins. (of course, exclude capsule)

Re: [Gold Stackers] New Perth Mint 2016 Silver Kangaroo 1oz Bullion Coin

I believe the design will be staying the same each year - much like the 1kg Kangaroo Gold Coin that it shares a common design with. I haven't even heard that there's going to be any numismatic versions of it. I think that the intention is to have an instantly recognisable long lived coin design (much like the ASE, Philly or SML), which in itself is a departure for the mint (excluding the relatively low mintage Platinum Platypus).

Guys, don't forget that the 2016 Australian Kangaroo - Commercial Quality - Silver Investor Coin is 9999 fine.

Silver Investor coins like the 1oz Koala, Kook etc remain (at this stage) 999 fine for 2016 / 2017.

Unlimited mintage. Perth mint has really extended its bullion coin variety and production recently. Wondering if its due to the recent increased demand?

Maybe they just want to create a new weapon to defeat ASE, Maples etc.

Re: [Gold Stackers] New Perth Mint 2016 Silver Kangaroo 1oz Bullion Coin

Does anyone know if the 2016 Australian Kangaroo security feature is similar to the new RCM Bullion DNA security technology? It sounds like the 2016 Australian Kangaroo security can be checked with a magnifying glass?

Re: [Gold Stackers] New Perth Mint 2016 Silver Kangaroo 1oz Bullion Coin

Similar in that they both use "microminting" technology to include virtually non-replicable features into the coin - however Bullion DNA has a technology component where individual coins can be scanned and definitively authenticated against a stored master reference (sort of like embedded cryptography), only available at selected dealers from 2016 onwards. Silver Kangaroos on the other hand can be checked on the spot with an eye-loupe - unless the counterfeiters make the same sort of investment in the same minting technology that Perth Mint (or Royal Canadian Mint) has, they're simply not going to be able to copy these coins.

So a balance of technology versus convenience - SMLs if you want to be able to walk into a capital city dealer and plop one down for pretty much fraud-proof testing, Silver Kangaroos if you want to use an eye-loupe anywhere and check for an expected feature.

Both technologies make it easier for dealers to authenticate buybacks, and the eye-loupe test should hold up over the long term as an acceptable means of privately checking secondary market Silver Kangaroos. Microminting in effect is akin to the development of security features in banknotes - sure, anyone can knock up a decent fake $50 note on the right printer, but can they get hold of a substitute polymer media that physically behaves the same way as a real note, and incorporate the microprinting, UV and other features at the same time? No.

I suspect it will be years before the US Mint decides that they need to do something about ASEs.

Looks like we jumped the gun on this one - we've been kindly asked by The Perth Mint to refrain from taking further pre-orders for this coin until the official release date of 21st September 2015.

What's the cost to have a monster box or 500 capped and are they foam rings or just regular caps?

Re: [Gold Stackers] New Perth Mint 2016 Silver Kangaroo 1oz Bullion Coin

I think they come in monster box of 250 (25 per tube) or encapsulated costs more but havent seen any foam rings.  Double check with a couple of the Forum sponsors / dealers.
