Re: Political JOTD

Here we go. Some genuine Left leaning comedy:

'I refuse to be the reason they escape proper scrutiny'

Yesterday, Opposition Leader Bill Shorten said Senator Dastyari made a mistake but deserved a second chance because he could "make a contribution to this country".

At the time, Senator Dastyari said he had not offered nor had he been asked for a resignation.

But today, he said he did not want the controversy surrounding the donations to distract from Labor's attacks on the Coalition's policy.

"The last thing a Government as bad and divided as this one deserves is a free pass," he said.

"I refuse to be the reason they escape proper scrutiny."

Much closer to home.

How can they attack the coalition's policies when Turnbull doesn't have any policies?

Re: Political JOTD

In the latest confirmation of how torn the republican establishment has become over the Trump candidacy, overnight it emerged that none other than former president George H.W. Bush is bucking his party's presidential nominee and plans to vote for Hillary Clinton in November, according to a member of another famous political family, the Kennedys.

As Politico first reported, Bush, 92, had intended to stay silent on the White House race between Clinton and Donald Trump, a sign in and of itself of his distaste for the GOP nominee. But his preference for the wife of his own successor, President Bill Clinton, nonetheless became known to a wider audience thanks to Kathleen Hartington Kennedy Townsend, the former Maryland lieutenant governor and daughter of the late Robert F. Kennedy.

On Monday, Townsend posted a picture on her Facebook page shaking hands next to the former president and this caption: "The President told me he's voting for Hillary!!"

Manipulation..... If you want to continually subscribe to this idea then get out of precious metals. Only a fool would play a game that is completely rigged. As you still are in the game, I would say that you are not completely convinced of the manipulation ...

Re: Political JOTD

This is probably the opposite of a joke, but need to keep this thread alive:

Senators plan no pay rise before surplus

Senators David Leyonhjelm and Cory Bernardi will vote on a motion to freeze their pay until the federal government delivers a budget surplus.

Senators will be asked to vote on whether they should forgo pay rises until the federal government delivers a budget surplus.

The proposal comes from former government senator Cory Bernardi and Liberal Democrat David Leyonhjelm who have given notice for a motion to be moved in the upper house on Tuesday.

"The Senate is of the view that all senators receive an appropriate remuneration package and therefore the Remuneration Tribunal should not consider increasing the remuneration paid to senators until the government has delivered a budget surplus," the motion says.

The mood of the population is very much anti politicians so I can see that this will get up, with pretty much full support.

Of course they will continue their other lurks and perks, but this one might at least slow down the spigot.

I think it is more likely that the media won't mention it and therefore the public won't know about it.

Re: Political JOTD

Update: Just six** out of 75 senators voted to forego pay rises until the federal government delivers a budget surplus.

Fellow crossbenchers from One Nation and Jacqui Lambie voted in support of the motion from Bernadi and Leyonhjelm.

Re: Political JOTD

During the March 14th floor debate on Idaho's House Bill 206, a measure that promotes sound money by removing Idaho income taxation from precious metals, Democrat Representative Mat Erpelding — the House Minority Leader said the following:

Mat Erpelding wrote:

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I don't have an opinion on this bill. However, I do have an opinion on facts. Facts are somewhat important. If we say that gold is going to protect us from inflation, I want to point out that in 1868, gold was $27 an ounce, and today gold is $1,218 an ounce. So, we can't say that gold is going to protect us from inflation when you have that type of a price range over the last hundred years. So, I just want to point out that facts are important.

lol Methinks the key fact here is that math isn't his strong point tongue
