Avatars

Avatars have been temporarily disabled - I missed a compression configuration when the revamped site launched in December, and we've almost blown our bandwidth for the month. They will be re-enabled on Feb 1st.

Re: Avatars

Do the embedded pictures which arent offsite also add?

I use offsite photos for that reason. Maybe local uploaded pictures are also increasing bandwidth?

Absolutely. Main issue was though that I had missed turning gzip back on, which compresses the regular HTML, CSS and JavaScript responses - so they were chewing bandwidth something horrendous.

Avatars were "low hanging fruit" to try and reduce some bandwidth usage for the next week and a bit.

Re: Avatars

To be honest, avatars are over rated anyway.  Is there an option in the profiles for users to turn them off completely?  I might go with this option anyway, the forum looks more business like without them clogging up the screen for my mind.

Do you want me to remove my recently posted pics for now?

I find them extremely useful for identifying the owner of posts when scanning through or reading threads. For example in long threads when scanning for my last post to continue reading from I look for the little gold man as it is much easier than trying to read each username.

Re: Avatars

Problem averted - avatars are back (and the site bandwidth is being doubled).
