Re: Norfed lovers stackers space

Wow, what a great thread!  I pulled a couple of pieces out of my collection recently and remembered purchasing a 2007 gold embossed $5 Kaiulani Dala when I lived in Honolulu in 2007.

https://c2791cd0-a-62cb3a1a-s-sites.goo … edirects=0

I also bought one of the $1 silver certificates.

https://c2791cd0-a-62cb3a1a-s-sites.goo … edirects=0

The images are from Liberty Dollar Encyclopedia.  https://sites.google.com/site/libertydo … yclopedia/

Has anyone ever tried to turn the certificate back in for actual silver?  It looks like the silver in Hawaii may have been saved from the federal raids?  I am ready to turn my items into bullion silver/gold/cash so please message me if interested in a trade.

Re: Norfed lovers stackers space

Diameters are listed here in the photo caption at the top of the page;

https://sites.google.com/site/libertydo … z-silver-1

Thickness varied a bit from run to run, but a good value on the one ounce (at the rim - it may be more at the center of the torch as there were clash marks in certain tubes) is 3.0 mm.  The 1/4 oz is 1.6 mm.

llleeellleee is RCO Charles Hampe in New Hampshire.  At the time of the raid he had one of the larger inventories of LD in the US (in the top ten).

Re: Norfed lovers stackers space

I got a phone call yesterday from a man in Hawaii who bought one of the pattern pieces (#0 in the LDE) from Bernard in 1998.  He sent me a photo of it.  It is gorgeous.  It is so rare I have never owned one, but I am no longer collecting.  If he decides to sell it, I will post that information on this forum.  There are advantages to being the author of LDE.  I get phone calls quite often, mostly from folks wanting to sell common stuff, but once in a while there is a jewel like yesterday.

I sold the #0 piece in question and two others I was contacted about in the last couple of months.  Check out the updates in the Liberty Dollar Encyclopedia.  The one in this photo ANACS graded at PF69.  The last piece sold for $2200.

Re: Norfed lovers stackers space

I basically don't give a s**t who is the next president of US or any other country, and I hope this post won't stir up some political debates/forum wars...especially since forum or this thread are mainly dedicated to coins and other precious metals we so like to collect, watch or hold in our hands. And since this thread mainly remained on very polite level of exchanging opinions.

It seems that Bernard von NotHaus, founder of NORFED, is behind design of these coins (so spirit of NORFED somehow still lives on).

Re: Norfed lovers stackers space

Could not find any Norfed silver coins on ebay today...was wondering if they have removed the dozens of listings of norfed coins due to the judge's bizarre ruling in NC last year that any norfed minted before 2007 was counterfeit...does anyone know what happened on ebay ?

Re: Norfed lovers stackers space

Welcome on board!;) We are still some left, although far last active than in the "golden age". I think prices of most of the stuff fall down.

Architect of NORFED supposedly did design for Trump dollar.

To be honest it's been quite a while since I bought last NORFED coin. Although I would still like to have some pieces I now prefer bigger stuff.:)

Re: Norfed lovers stackers space

I still watch, just have not had anything new recently. I am not sure the prices have dropped much, at least not on the rare pieces. It appears that they are still selling for top dollar when they come up.

Re: Norfed lovers stackers space

thx Stark, good to see there's still a few of you left.  In parousing the old posts on the forum I must say I learned tons of information I had not originally been privy to.  Maybe we can rekindle a new "Golden Age" of conversation on here over time.

Fleck, you are right about the pricing.  I will say though, I do wonder if the hoping for prices to decline is a waste of time.  My gut tells me that as long as the story of BVNH and LD is continued to be spread over generations, there will always be a market for them.  Thats my hope anyway...

Re: Norfed lovers stackers space

Until there are new people coming and joining the forum or collecting it's always a hope.:)

I was also going through old posts when I started collecting. A lot of interesting info. I'm quite jealous I joined later.

I think most of the stuff can be obtained cheaper than record prices. However I think Ron just sold Evansville for record price. In general maybe this is true for most of silver coins. I think a lot of people start collecting with latest financial crisis and went out when PM was going down.

Some guy sold tube of Euros on eBay which affected the prices I guess.

There are probably some prototypes left people are not aware of.

If Bernard Von NotHaus continue with making new ones that might spark new interest.

For me it was always more about the idea that people can make some changes, the idea about bringing alternatives and fighting for better world. And regarding this NORFEDs are very unique. If not the only series in this scale.

There are also some books from Von NotHaus. I still have one to finish. What I read so far is very interesting.

Re: Norfed lovers stackers space

I started collecting a small amount in 2011, but wish I had stayed with it.  I changed my focus to Eagles and bars, but looking back, wish I had stayed into the LD's.  You hit the nail on the head Stark with regards to why you collect them.  For me, it's also not just about the unmatched beauty and wide array of the pieces, but the entire principle and belief system on which they were founded.  Liberty...real liberty is something unknown to my generation.  As the way the world turns these days it appears we are walking a path in which it will also be unknown to the future generations as well...a sad state of affairs indeed.  (I love your quote by the way Stark.)

What's the title of the book you are reading?  Is it by BVNH or just written about him?

With the high prices the pieces are fetching today, I'm surprised there still aren't more people on the forum selling.  What part of Europe are you in Stark?

Re: Norfed lovers stackers space

I'm sorry they didn't make more 5oz or bigger pieces. smile 5oz is such a killer coin. It was my first 5oz coin. I still need to buy 50$ one.

Books are following:

Y2K Money: Your Survival Currency
http://www.computersincrisis.com/y2k-mo … -currency/
It's not really a book as it's very short. I read it. Today it's somehow "funny" as "2k bug" was probably one of the most over hyped thing in the history, or at least recent history. It's good however as a short intro into NORFED and problems of fiat money.

The Liberty Dollar Solution To The Federal Reserve
https://www.amazon.com/Liberty-Dollar-S … 0967102529
I haven't finished reading it yet. As I'm generally interesting in history first part for me it's very cool as it shortly explains American history, especially the currency (inflation, etc.) related part. I'm not much familiar with that part of the history so I cannot say if everything is accurate.
However I think this book is a must buy for any serious NORFED collector and also for people who are generally interested in history (or currencies) or "alternatives" of current financial system. It will be probably also interesting for all those people who support returning of gold/silver backed currencies.

If nothing else it sheds some additional light on the background on NORFED.
