Rare, Collectable and Vintage Gold Bars.

I like collecting vintage gold bars even more than the silver variety, so I am starting a tread on this subject.
Lets have a peek at any unusual ones you own.
One of my favourites is the 1oz Harrington

A very rare 2.5 grams Credit Swisse minted bar.
Some lucky stacker will pick this one up at the meet on the 28/8/11

Heh, you know I do.

If you happen to come across a 50g Oriana, please let me know.

Re: Rare, Collectable and Vintage Gold Bars.

Information is pretty scant on Oriana bars.
Did they actually mint a 50gram bar?

Yes, they made the range in the link rbaggio posted. Started in late 2005 and ceased production in early 2007, about the same time as they started packaging Perth Mint branded bars in the Certicard.

From what I gather, the Oriana was made mainly for export to the European market. I suspect it was a commissioned product but can't get any info out of the Perth Mint on it so I can't say for sure.

Re: Rare, Collectable and Vintage Gold Bars.

Premiums on those bars has shot through the roof.
One ebay site has about a $40 premium on a 1gram bar. Ouch!

Re: Rare, Collectable and Vintage Gold Bars.

Never see them in Melbourne - I'd say they're gaining quasi-numismatic status.

I would doubt there would have been records kept as they are not a coin product, but I could be wrong.

Re: Rare, Collectable and Vintage Gold Bars.

One of the earliest example of an Australian minted bar.
This vintage minted bar is not the most attractive however it is quite rare.

Re: Rare, Collectable and Vintage Gold Bars.

A rare Japanese LBMA approved 0.3 gram bar. The bar is still sealed (in its original shrink wrap) and is no longer in production. I had to pay a whopper of a premium to get it lol

Re: Rare, Collectable and Vintage Gold Bars.

Good one Oz; keep them coming
These are my latest toys. Extremely high fondle factor.
High premiums, top quality bars.
Over the top security features, serial numbered bars, matching COA and a really cool  holographic type image on the reverse.
These pics don't do it justice.
