Rooster is now .9999 fine

Anybody else notice that the 2017 rooster is .9999 fine.  Is this the first Perth mint coin besides the 2016 kangaroo that is .9999s?

My 2016 Australian lunar gold monkey is .9999 fine gold as well. I believe they all are .9999

Silver lunar coins were previously .999.

Maybe RCM are providing the blanks for lunars now.
can we expect milky roosters?

good observation, the 1oz silver rooster lunar is 9999, and past years were 999

I would have preferred they kept the whole series consistent and stuck with 999 for the entire series

my 999 lunars (touch wood) still have not developed milk spots, but if these 9999 milk spotting kangaroos are anything to go by, watch out for lunars spotting up as well sad

Perhaps the same blanks as the roos.

They seem to be intent on killing the golden goose.

They now say 9999 "ag" instead of 999 silver as well, interesting to be making these changes in the middle of the series

Re: Rooster is now .9999 fine

Presume they are going to retire 999 refining line.

As for the milkspots I read that is was due to inclusions, so I presume this is happening after refining and in the polishing stage.

WTB 4 to 6 grams of pure gold. Don't care if it is coin, bar or granules. Near spot, suits anyone who has been tempted to open a certicard or just have some granules to make a ring

Re: Rooster is now .9999 fine

If it is 9999 it's almost a certainty it will milk spot. Anyway, I've been over this issue ages ago with the overpriced crap they pump out in recent years. Still think it's a sourced out product that will look good at first and turn out nasty later ( like a ex ). tongue

What does it matter outsourced or in house, if it is spotty. In any case, what would be the benefit for Perth Mint to say the blanks are in house, if the problem is with out sourced blanks?

Re: Rooster is now .9999 fine

Most of the silver these days is 9999 or very close to it anyway, I don't think we will see any difference regarding spots or anything.

I never heard .9999 was more prone to milkspots.
