How Much Can You Save?

Found a nice tool to show you how all those little things can really add up over the years. After calculating one coffee a day and 3 beers a week, I think I'll sacrifice them and have an extra $400k in my Super!

Re: How Much Can You Save?

with respect those figures are total bs based on an over inflated price for beer/coffee and guaranteed returns on the stock market. That is a tool that says to me instead of enjoying the coffee and beer, invest the money in super so the super managers get their coffee and beer as they lose your money on the stock market.
reminds me of this joke
Lady: Do you smoke?
Guy: Yes I do.
Lady: How many packs a day?
Guy: 3 packs.
Lady: How much per pack?
Guy: $10.00 per pack.
Lady: And how long have you been smoking?
Guy: 15 years
Lady: So 1 pack is $10.00 and you have been smoking 3 packs a day which puts your spending per month at $900. In 1 year, it would have been $10,800. Correct?
Guy: Correct.
Lady: If 1 year you spend $10,800, not accounting for inflation, the past 15 years puts your spending total at $162,000. Correct?
Guy: Correct.
Lady: Do you know if you hadn't smoke, that money could have been put in a step-up interest savings account and after accounting for compound interest for the past 15 years, you could have by now bought a Ferrari?
Guy: Oh. Do you smoke?
Lady: No.
Guy: Then where's your turtle-heading Ferrari? grin emoticon

Those prices are very indicitve of Sydney prices.

Given that most people don't know how much they have in Super, how it's performing (or even care), that the Super managers get their fee regardless of how much more you put in and that the average male aged 60 to 65 has an account balance of $114,000... I think I'll happily do it.

In 30 years times I'll be able to use all those savings to buy a single beer lol

Can't, costs $16 for one when I'm out! Though I have switched out my usual $140 bottle for the surprisingly not too shabby Glen Grant for $40, will save millions over the years big_smile

Not if you get a dollar coffee at 7/11.

I used to get a few coffee's (cappucino) a day at coffee shop costing $4 a pop. Now I get them at 7/11 and they taste nearly as good. smile

Re: How Much Can You Save?

I was at Circular Quay in 2008 and they charged me $5.50 for a 390ml bottle of coke,
I asked the guy what scotch came with that?

You could always DIY. Roasted dandelion root coffee, and goon.

Coke / soft drinks are another massive rip off.
