Gold Rush Season final and Season 4.

The 2 hour season final was fantastic smile

Despite the fact that some of Discovery's Gold Rush episodes don't really yield all that much of the yellow stuff, people are still tuning in like the show is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I should give the program credit—the boys are bringing in far more gold than they did in Season 1 and their TV ratings numbers have held pretty steady in Season 3 at just under 5 million total viewers an episode. Season 3 ended just last night, and with Season 4 now a certainty, Gold Rush is set to head into some new territory.

Many people are suggesting Todd was on drugs which, if true, is absolutely disgraceful

Todd sure was doing a strange sniffing noise during the live parts of the show.  I skipped the live bits, just padding and boring.  Looks like they have made a South America spinoff also with Todd, Dave & Co off to perhaps Peru by the looks of it.

Who are "many people"?
Those that sit and judge or those that get out there and have a go?
The show is shot in an arctic area, warmest month (july) is 10degC, so pretty cold still. Ive worked with a lot of blokes on construction and mines who get runny noses when it drops below 15degC and sniff a lot because they are outside in the weather all day, not from drugs.

I think the drug reference might come from when Todd talked about having ADD or ADHD or something like that in a earlier season and he is on meds for it. Medication that is in its rawest form, speed, though it works differently in those that use it as a medication as it slows their thoughts and they are able to focus on one thought instead of jumping all over the shop (which when you look at some of the calls Todd has made, makes sense)

The only other person on Todds crew on heavy meds was the welder from first season due to his messed up back and again, this was never hidden from viewers. Good on Todd for at least giving someone who is disabled a go even if it didnt work out for them.
Old Fred kicked off site that bloke because of meds, said it was because he hid it from him but old mate offered to get a doctor to sign off on it but Fred didnt want to hear about it, which I thought was poor form.
If you have ever known anyone that lives with bad pain and need heavy meds, you would know they dont effect the person by getting them high or stoned as the drug does its job in the background and these sides disappear very quickly as the body builds up a tolerance to deal with that feeling.
Due to so much mis information and people only hearing about the deadsh*t junkies trying to score the stuff to get high, it really paints anyone who actually needs this sort of medication in a bad light also. Most, if not all people with a real need for it, would give anything to not need it.

At least he got a crew togeather and went balls to the wall and had a go and made for some good TV at the same time

Re: Gold Rush Season final and Season 4.

These guys were already struggling with a gold price of $1700 an ounce.

Can't see them making much profit with the current gold price.

You've got to remember that the gold they mine and weigh is only around 80% pure. They do reflect this in the prices they mention. So 1 ounce mined is probably under a $1000 at the moment for these guys.

Re: Gold Rush Season final and Season 4.

The gold price rose more than the prices of other stuff, giving this small scale of operation again a chance on profit. When those that bought gold then dump it again, and the gold price drops again, then the situation becomes again the old one.
If these lower prices stay or drop more (the stocks of the dumpers arent empty yet, especially in silvers case, that even didnt drop with the price so far), AND/OR prices of other stuff rise more than gold, then it's expectable to see these miners (and also alot dealers) to disappear again from the gold market, having to find another job.

By the way, do these guys from the tv series get paid for their participation in tv shows?

^ Yes, the "stars" of the show get paid a significant amount of money to appear, far more than they make from gold mining.
