bit different to just bumping the same ad over and over and over and over, without a price reduction. If something isn't selling you know somethings wrong, repeating a failing formula isn't the smartest way to move something.

why is it silly? For gold and silver, running an add for 1 day is often the only course to take, particularly with spot price likely to rise or fall considerably over a longer period. Further, many people (eg myself), look to listings finishing first when trawling PM buys. 24 hours is more than adequate time unless you have a hard to sell collectable item that needs to gather attention.

running ad for more than 1 day helps in getting more exposure
many will still refrain from bidding till last few hours

less audience with 1day auctions

1day concert-25000 fans....2 days concert- 50000 fans...get it?

People have other important things to do than check SS or ebay every day:) Having said that u need more days to run yr ad for more exposure, just like WF said it..but at the end everyone does it as they wish:)

The dynamics (and target audience) of selling on SS is VERY different to the dynamics of selling on ebay.

I've been selling on ebay for over 10 years now. I agree with the exposure bit but with a different endstate to just getting a sale. I often list items for 10 days plus, not really looking for a sale but more a case of generating interest and driving/attracting people to my website where I have a much larger range of products for sale (in other words, I advertise on ebay to get people to go to my website where I can avoid ebay listing fees and end of listing fees).

But when selling PM eg Gold, then I definitely sell for only 1 day on ebay. Why? Because should I set the sale at longer, and I get bids, and the spot price should fall, then I can either take the hit and have my end sale less than optimal, or I can try to end the listing early (but this is a hassle one wouldn't want to do too often).

Try selling 1 oz of gold for 1 day. Then try selling 1 oz of gold for 10 days. Look at the ends sale price taking into account spotprice on the day of your sale. You will soon see that there is little point for longer ebay listings IF YOUR AIM IS TO SELL BULLION.

If your trying to sell numismatics, then it is a different kettle of fish again.

Its not a simple case of long term vs short term. It depends on your product type, the aim of your listing, and your target sale audience.

And in the end, you will do as you wish...........................  ;)

There you go…insinuating SS is a business and not a gathering of like minded folk.
You need to edit that heretical view before you get canned OYAF lol

Re: Bumping sale threads

So what  was the penalty for multiple bumpings? I have 3 suggestions.

Grade 3 Penalty. They are put on a name and shame list.
Grade 2 Penalty. Their true address is shown, where a select few members will pay a visit and get to tie them up to a flagpole for 24 hours.
Grade 1 Penalty. They must hand over all bullion to their partner/wife, confiscated for 7 days.

Any better suggestions, we should list them.

In all seriousness though, i think should penalizing bumps be applied, it would see an influx 'new threads' increase as a workaround/alternative to bumping causing a meltdown, and widespread anarchy. roll:rolleyes:
